Danny Langsdorf: Same Gameplan for Vaz

Oregon State’s hot start to season took most of the college football world by storm through the first four weeks of the season.  And then the Beavers got brought back down to reality Monday when the Beavers found out that they were going to lose QB Sean Mannion for an undisclosed amount of time and they were going to have to rely on a redshirt junior that has not played since his senior year of high school.  Oregon State Offensive Coordinator Danny Langsdorf joined Chad on Flight 750 Tuesday to talk about how the team and specifically, Cody Vaz, will play in Mannion’s absence.

Langsdorf began by talking about the great start the Beavers have had to the season.

“We’ve kind of had some slow starts especially the last couple years so this has been very exciting for our group and I think it’s just a credit to the hard work they had all offseason and I think we felt good in training camp about this team and we weren’t quite sure until we got into the games, but so far so good.”

Langsdorf also spoke about Sean Mannion’s injury and how it has affected his spirits.

“I think he’s really disappointed.  He was playing great football on a (4-0) team, so I think that just as a competitor he’s very disappointed getting injured like that…But he’s going to be as good of a team captain as we’ll have and encourage the rest of the guys.

And lastly, Langsdorf commented on Mannion’s replacement, Cody Vaz, and what he brings to the table for the Beavers.

“He’s got a strong arm, a quick release – he’s going to be just fine with the game plan and I’m excited for him to play.  I think he’s waited a long time for this chance.  He’s gotten a lot of reps with the ones – even in training camp, he and Sean were pretty much 50-50.  So he’s had a lot of good work, he just hasn’t had a lot of game experience.
