Portland Family Remembers The Titanic
April 13, 2012, 5:55 am
A Portland family has special reason to mark this weekend's 100th anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic. They are descendants of Frank Warren, who lost his life when the ocean liner sank. His wife Anna survived. They were on their way home after spending time in Europe and Egypt to mark their 40th wedding anniversary.
Warren's great great granddaughter, Katherine Young, says she's been fascinated by the Titanic ever since she was a child. She tears up when she sees pictures and feels the tragedy more deeply when she watches the movie.
A memorial is in place for Warren at the Riverview Cemetery. His body was never found.
The Warrens were members of the First Congregational United Church of Christ
in downtown Portland. The church is holding two concerts this weekend to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the Titanic sinking at 7:30 tomorrow night and 2:30 Sunday afternoon.
