PORTLAND -- Trail Blazers
fans will be chanting something else in the closing moments of the team's home games as the popular free Chalupa promotion is now a thing of the past.
Fans will still eat free when the Blazers score at least 100 points in the Moda Center, but it will be McDonalds instead of Taco Bell. They'll get a coupon on their way out for a free sausage McMuffin with egg.
"This is one of the most popular in-arena promotions in sports. The crowd noise noticeably escalates as the Trail Blazers approach 100 points. The extra energy level contributes to our home court advantage," said President and CEO Chris McGowan.
A marketing decision by Taco Bell ended all promotions, like the one with the Trail Blazers after fourteen years. The new one will debut at the home opener on November 2nd. Everyone will get a coupon for a free McMuffin that night only even if the team doesn't hit triple-digits.
"We are excited to celebrate this new partnership between McDonald's and the Portland Trail Blazers," said local owner/operator Mike Kennedy.
The team is also launching an online contest for fans to pick who will break the century mark, both home and away. One person will win Trail Blazers merchandise.
