The mountains weren't the only thing rocky in Colorado Saturday evening, as the Ducks overcome a sloppy start to defeat the Buffaloes [SCORE]
Credit Colorado for coming out swinging and giving everything they could to the #2 team in the nation.
After failing to recover an onside kick to begin the game, the Buffs stonewalled the Ducks, forcing them into a quick three-and-out. On Colorado's ensuing possession, QB Connor Wood connected with Paul Richardson 55 yards down the sideline to put the Buffs in Ducks territory.
Colorado would eventually settle for a FG in the redzone, in what would become a theme throughout the night for the Buffs.
Marcus Mariota and the Ducks would counter on their next possession, going 75 yards in only 1:49 of possession. The drive was capped by a 2 yard stroll into the endzone by Mariota on a read option.
Colorado would score their lone touchdown the next possession, when Paul Richardson hit D.D. Goodwin on the WR reverse pass for a 75-yard score to give the Buffs a 10-8 lead midway through the opening quarter.
Oregon would begin to separate itself, however, nothing three more touchdowns before the first quarter would come to a close. Two of those touchdowns would come from Mariota passing strikes.
In the second quarter, Colorado would find itself in the redzone two more times, and two more times it would settle for field goals. Meanwhile, Oregon kept scoring touchdowns. Mariota would both throw and run for another score and the Ducks headed to the locker rooms with a 43-16 advantage.
The Oregon defense would settle down in the second half as Colorado was shut out and struggled to gain any yardage.
Meanwhile, Mariota kept dealing, throwing for two more touchdown passes in the third quarter before finally being relieved.
Jake Rodriguez and Jeff Lockie handled the quarterbacking duties in the final quarter, each throwing an interception.
Oregon would finally kneel on the ball and run out the clock on the Colorado 1-yard line and the Ducks were victorious 57-16.
Mariota finished 16/27 for 355 yards and 5 touchdown passes. He also rushed for 43 yards and two more scores.
Byron Marshall carried the rock 23 times for 122 yards.
Oregon also had two WRs eclipse the 100-yard mark in Bralon Addison (5 catches, 158 yards) and Josh Huff (5, 103).
The Ducks will travel to Seattle next, where they take on the Washington Huskies.
