Portland, Oregon - A decision on whether to allow a homeless camp to move from Old Town to the Pearl District has been pushed back until October 16th. Portland City Council listened to five hours of testimony on Thursday and then decided to meet with leaders from Right 2 Dream 2 and The Pearl District Neighborhood Association to see if they can iron out differences.
The proposal is to move the camp to a city owned parking lot under the Broadway Bridge. But a number of Pearl District residents testified they are concerned about rising crime rates and falling property values.
Mayor Charlie Hales said R2D2 " is a unique community that is doing valid work in a special way that no government agency ever thought of." More than 130 signed up to testify.
