Oregon is 4-0 and coming off a decisive win versus Cal in what were some of the worst conditions Autzen Stadium has ever encountered. Oregon Head Coach Mark Helfrich joined Chad on Flight 750 Wednesday to talk about that game and to preview this week’s matchup with the Colorado Buffaloes.Helfrich talked about whether those conditions changed the way he orchestrated the offense.
“I think in the beginning you try to feel it out. You try to feel out how your guys are going to handle it. We had some ball handling issues, but you’re going to kind of do what you do and just feel it out and then go from there. I think that’s the same thing they did. They tried to just run their normal offense and had some issues and we tried to run our normal offense and had some issues and we all just adjusted from there.”
Helfrich also talked about what it’s going to be like to go up against the team that he used to coach for before coming to Oregon.
“We played there a couple years ago and had that kind of moment of reminiscing and I think that’s all gone by the wayside. It’s a neat place. It’s a really cool place to play…Our son was born in Boulder, so that will always be a special place in our hearts but on Saturday, we have to play football.”
Helfrich also said that he expects the Ducks to get a much better effort out of Buffs than the Beavers got from them last weekend in Corvallis.
“I think they just had a little rust in the Oregon State game. But I know they’ll come back. A lot of that was because of the layoff from the flooding in Colorado. I think it was kind of like a first game again for them and they’ll be back in rhythm for us.”
Take a listen to the great interview and be sure check out the Ducks as they take on the Buffaloes Saturday at 3:00pm right here on 750thegame.
