The Fix is in for the Boondoggle Bridge
The Fix is in for the Boondoggle Bridge over the
Columbia river. I know that state lawmakers in
Washington have voted it down. Voters in
Oregon and Washington have voted down more light rail which is the primary
reason to build the bridge.
Kitzhaber wants it and he’s going to get it even if the people and their
representatives say no.
On Friday night,
the Coast Guard gave approval to the bridge even thought its height is too low
for big ship traffic to pass under. No
explanation about why they signed off but I smell a democrat deal between
Kitzhaber and the Obama administration.
The Oregon State Treasurer told me Friday afternoon that the bridge is
not financially viable. And for some reason, the Washington Attorney General
says it’s okay for Oregon to go it alone with the bridge even thought it will
mean Oregon exercising eminent domain in Washington state and it means Oregon
will collect tolls from Washington residents and spend the money…taxation
tolls don’t produce enough to pay the debt for the bridge, Oregon residents end
up on the hook to pay the tab. If
you put the whole Boondoggle to a vote in either state, it wouldn't pass. But Kitzhaber wants it and he’s going to have
it unless you tell him “no”.
