MOLALLA, Ore. -- It was a happy ending to the search for a Portland man who got lost while picking mushrooms in the forest near Molalla. He didn't come back home on Monday and loved ones began to worry.
Dozens of searchers were looking for him when a logging truck driver spotted 53-year-old Boris Bondarchuk on Thursday morning on a forest road. He was scratched up, very wet, cold and tired.
"He heard people looking for him from afar. He screamed, but we didn't hear him. So he used his cell phone light to shine through the forest hoping we'd see him. He kept trying to find us," said his daughter.
His family was relieved when the trucker drove him to the fire station for a happy reunion. They were concerned because Bondarchuk has a heart condition, he speaks Russian and the weather conditions were soggy.
Boris says he took shelter in the woods to keep himself dry. He followed the Molalla River until it came to a road, where he was eventually found.
