Oregon's 2nd largest state park is opening Wednesday. The 8,000 acre Cottonwood Canyon State Park features excellent access to the John Day River.
The land in Wasco was put up for sale by a private owner and purchased by Western Rivers Conservancy. They held it until the state was in position to take control.
It features amazing views, day hiking, overnight camping, fishing, hunting and bird watching. It is about a 2-hour drive from Portland.
