Eight children ranging from 6 to 13 are okay after nearly drowning at Hagg Lake near Gaston over the weekend. None of the kids could swim or was wearing a life jacket. They were not expecting the lake's steep 15 foot drop off. The Gibson family from Hillsboro was holding a family reunion nearby. They raced to help forming a human chain that plucked the kids from the water and got them safely back on the beach. The Gibsons say they are not heroes. But the Gaston Fire Chief believes they are. He say the rescue was a case of good old hard work and paying attention to human life.
