Tyrone Woods spent nearly two decades as a Navy SEAL before retiring. He was working as a private contractor in Libya earlier this week when Islamic radicals attacked the U.S. Consul in Benghazi. He was one of four people, including U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens, killed in the attack.
Woods, 41, grew up in Portland and attended Oregon City high school. There is former wrestling coach, Ed Burton, remembered a quiet and respectful teenager. Woods' mother is in Washington D.C. to attend a ceremony in honor of those who died and to recover her son's remains. Cheryl Croft Bennett tells KGW Newschannel 8 she's sure her son died trying to protect others, and her only hope is that he didn't suffer. He leaves behind a wife and three children.
