Packing a healthy school lunch can be difficult, especially when parents are crunched for time. But even though prepackaged foods are convenient, they aren't healthy. Kristen Hagen is a nutritionist and the lead science faculty member for the University of Phoenix in Oregon. She says fruit cups for example, are usually packed with heavy syrup. Instead, she says parents should cut up fruit Sunday night and put it in plastic containers kids can take to school throughout the week. If you're packing sandwiches, Hagen suggests whole grain bread. She also suggests you swap out honey for jelly on those PB&J's, because honey has less sugar.| Add your comments below | |
