George Wrighster: "Real Men Bake"
August 30, 2013, 3:17 pm
Former Oregon Duck and NFL tight end George Wrighster joined the BFT Friday to talk about his life of baking sweets after the conclusion of his football career.
Wrighster, who played for six years with the Jacksonville Jaguars after being drafted by the team in the fourth round of the 2003 NFL draft, talked about what he learned when he entered the league.
"You have to be a professional," Wrighster explains. "Skill and talent won't just win alone."
After the NFL, Wrighster saw himself becoming an investor in the Pasadena, California bakery Violet's Cakes. He even went on to represent the bakery on a 2012 episode of Cupcake Wars on the Food Network.
"It was kind of cool to get out there and compete again, but this time it was with baking," Wrighster said of the experience. "It was nerve-wracking, but it was a lot of fun."
