I understand the need for sports franchises and building owners to make money, but you still want a cool name for your arena if they sell the rights. That's why I am actually kind of pleased with the new name for the Rose Garden--Moda Center.
According to the Blazers press release,
"Moda Health is an health provider that serves provide to almost 2 million members in Oregon, Washington and Alaska a wide range of medical, dental, pharmacy and vision health plans and services. With more than 1,400 employees, the company, headquartered in Portland, has offices in Medford, Milwaukie, Bend, and La Grande."That's great! But the thing that will stand out in the next 10 years (the length of this deal) is how cool it is to say "Moda Center." Will people shorten it? What will they shorten it to?
When Century Link bought the field in Seattle, everyone started calling it the "Clink". When the Delta Center in Salt Lake City changed, it became "Energy Solutions Arena" and then people call it the "ESA." That seems much better.
So, for now, Moda Center it is! We'll now await the new graphics and signage. Go Blazers!
