Mike Parker, Voice of the Oregon State Beavers, joined The Bald Faced Truth guest host Brian Wheeler Thursday to update the pressing nature of the year's preseason camp.
Last season, the Beavers lost their first game of the season to FCS opponent Sacramento State. Parker said the loss was a bitter beginning to a long season.
"The 0-1 [record]... it just staggered everyone," Parker recalled. "Things could not have gotten off to a worse possible start."
Oregon State has seen its fair share of on-field difficulties, suffering 28 consecutive losing seasons through the 1970s, 80s and 90s. After the recent struggles the team has endured, Parker said there is certainly some panic among fans that the team is headed back in that direction.
"This is a critical year in terms of ... sending a statement that you're not slipping back," Parker said. "Oregon State fans -- long-time 'Beaver Believers' -- I think have a sense of fear deep in the gut about the 'dark decades.' "
Parker also comments on the attention to detail the coaching staff is instilling to combat the last two losing seasons. Listen to the interview:
