Ducks' Defense Will Be Dominant
July 30, 2012, 1:38 pm
The most wonderful time of the year is fast approaching - That's right, it's almost college football season. To honor it, we had none other than the voice of the Ducks, Jerry Allen, on the Morning Sports Page to share his thoughts on the upcoming season.
Allen, like most people is excited for all the experience coming back on defense. He, like many other experts, believe the true strength of this team will be its defense. Led by guys like Dion Jordan, Taylor Hart, Michael Clay and John Boyett, Allen says this defense has a chance to be the most dominant defense that the U of O has ever had - and he says it's easily the best defense the team has had in the Chip Kelly era.
Allen also maintains the offensive line - often an area of weakness for the Ducks - has a chance to be one of the best units the team has ever put together. They are going to be led by Carson York and Hroniss Grasu. But he says to be aware of newcomers James Euscher and Jake Fischer. Both will play big minutes for the team this season.
Unlike many people who've come on the show to talk Ducks, Allen argues that the loss of Darron Thomas at quarterback will probably not be to difficult to manage. Thomas won a lot of games and he was a tough guy who would hang in the pocket till the end - knowing that a big hit was coming, but he feels the new starter will come in and have immediate success. He asserts that with as much talent as Oregon has, the quarterback will not be asked too much that could get him into trouble.
Take a listen as Allen discusses the new challenges for this year's team and be sure to join 750thegame all season long as we broadcast every Duck game live.
