Ian Eagle is the play-by-play voice of the Brooklyn Nets, the voice of the NCAA tournament and the voice of the NFL with both Dial Global and CBSSports. He is one of the most famous and most well-respected broadcasters in all of sports. He joined Chad on Flight 750 Monday to talk about the crazy off season with the Nets and to preview the upcoming NFL season.Eagle insists that Deron Williams is fully on board with the Nets bringing in Jason Kidd to coach the team.
“Deron Williams has come out and said Jason Kidd was his idol growing up. He grew up in the Dallas area and was a huge Kidd fan and Kidd played a big role in his development as a player.”
Eagle also said that people should be on the lookout for the Nets in the Eastern Conference next season, because everybody is going all-in for hopes of a championship.
“If they would have just signed Kirilenko this off season, if that would have been the only addition to this team, I think a lot of NBA pundits would have said ‘Wow, they got better!’…Now you’re talking about Garnett, Pierce, and Terry as an addition – Yes it’s a two-year window, but they’re serious. They’re serious about winning. They’re serious about making a legitimate run at this thing.”
And finally Eagle talked about the upcoming NFL season and he said one of the things that is piquing his curiosity the most is the arrival of Chip Kelly.
“You know that everybody around the NFL: Defensive Coordinators, opposing head coaches, they want a shot at this guy. He got a lot of attention. In a world where it’s hard – It’s hard to make inroads as an innovator. He got a lot of pub and attention. So there are guys around the league that certainly would like to humble him.”
