Six Miles of I-84 EB Closed for Paving
Interstate 84 EB at 60th
July 12, 2013, 12:40 pm
A major summer construction project is getting underway this weekend on one of the busiest freeways in Oregon. Interstate 84 eastbound will close from Interstate 5 to I-205 at 10:00 tonight through Monday morning at 5:00.
This is the first of three planned closures. The westbound lanes will be closed next weekend and the first in August.
The near six-mile stretch has become rutted and worn since it was last paved in 2002. At least 170,000 cars travel the Banfield daily.
The project includes paving the lanes and ramps, installing new signs, restriping the lanes and repairing the Halsey Street overpass at 82nd Avenue. Read more
about the project.
There are many alternates including Sandy, Broadway, Burnside or Glisan to name a few. If you're headed east of the closure, get on I-205 from I-5. Public transit is another option to get around the closure. Max travels on the tracks next to the freeway with park and ride lots available along the way.
