Jefferson Smith apologizes for his poor behavior/KATU

July 6, 2012, 4:40 pm

Last November, Jefferson Smith, candidate for Mayor of Portland, allegedly punched an opponent in the groin during a pickup basketball game. Though he claims he hit the man in the thigh, Smith apologized for the incident. Jefferson Smith joins the Bald Faced Truth with John Canzano to talk about his campaign for mayor and whether he is a dirty player. After Willamette Week reported on the incident, Smith addressed the issue and maintains that he responded in self-defense.

Smith says he regrets his behavior in the pickup basketball game. Despite apologizing for his behavior, though, he still believes he acted in self-defense and to protect his teammates during a contentious game. Ultimately, Smith stressed that he wants to bring people together and not resort to violence.
