A dry and windy weekend turned into a firefight in the Columbia River Gorge. It started on a hill in Chenowith near The Dalles. It came within a football field's length of nearby homes. Neighbors helped wet down the homes as fire crews worked to cut a line around the fire. As of last night the flames had scorched 70 acres of brush and grass. More fire crews will join the effort today. The fire is 70 percent contained. No homes were lost.
