Rapids defeat the Timbers 3-0 /Portland Timbers

June 30, 2012, 8:30 pm

Less than a week after the highlight of the Timbers' season, defeating the Sounders, they arguably experienced their lowest point Saturday night. The Colorado Rapids blitzed the Timbers early and often on their way to a 3-0 victory at Dick's Sporting Goods Park.
Whether it was the travel, the altitude, or just the grind of the MLS season, the Timbers came out flat and lethargic. The Rapids pounced on the opportunity with two goals in the first half.

The first came in the 18th minute when Jaime Castrillon used the inside of his left foot to drop in a Hunter Freeman cross.

Only four minutes later, Conor Casey headed in another cross past Troy Perkins.

The Timbers were never able to recover from the two early scores and were only able to muster two shots on goal the entire game.

Just for good measure, Colorado found the back of the net in the 89th minute, this time by Jamie Smith when he put away a beautiful chip cross by Tony Cascio.

Portland drops to 4-7-4 on the season and will face the San Jose Earthquake next on Tuesday at Jeld-Wen Field.
