A 5-year-old boy fell from his upstairs bedroom window around 2:30 this Afternoon. It happened in Northwest Portland on Northwest Ash Street. Portland Fire says the boy was playing in an upstairs bedroom and managed to open the window and crawl out. He fell some 15' and landed on some concrete and sustained critical injuries, including significant head injuries. A safe Life Flight landing area was created next door, and the boy was flown to Emmanuel Hospital where he remains in critical condition.
Several other Portland area children have fallen out of their 2nd story windows this week including two on Wednesday. They managed to escape with minor injuries. Especially during the summer months, the Portland Fire Department wants to remind parents about the benefits of installing child protective devices on all upper level windows where children could be playing.
