With the NBA draft coming up this Thursday and the Blazers seemingly uncertain at most positions, we called on one of the best to discuss the Blazers’ possible draft/trade options. "The Wild One", Mike Rice, joined Chad on Flight 750 Monday to break it all down for us.Rice insists that the most important thing for the Blazers to do this off-season is just solidify a couple positions in the off-season.
“They can’t solve all their problems in this draft and in this free agent period. They have to be able to have enough patience just to improve to make sure ‘Okay, now we have a team that can get by that first round of the playoffs.’ The following year, we’ll add to that. That’s how the great teams progress.”
Rice also said this draft is going to be one of the most interesting drafts we’ve ever seen because there is so much uncertainty when it comes to the players.
“They’re talking about Alex Len being a 1, 2, or 3 pick. So you just don’t know in this draft where anybody’s going. That’s why it’s going to be a lot of fun Thursday.”
Rice also discussed the possibility of bringing in the big man from Phoenix, Marcin Gortat.
“Their roster is strong enough that they don’t have to clear everything out. - A Gortat, I think you could probably get him and not have to give up too much of the core. So that would be a good name in the trade market.”
