Martell Webster played five seasons for the Portland Trail Blazers from 2006 to 2010 and he was one of the most beloved members of the team during that time. But in 2010 he was traded to Minnesota Timberwolves for Ryan Gomes and the rights to Luke Babbitt. He joined Chad in-studio Friday to talk his time with Portland.Webster says that even though he left Portland under less than ideal circumstances, he still has nothing but love for Portland and it is still one of his favorite cities.
“Steve Blake stays here. Channing Frye stays here. Terry Porter’s here…It’s just a beautiful city. Honestly there’s no better place to raise a family. That’s why I love coming back here in the summer time.”
Webster also said that he loved everything about Portland when he was here from 2006 – 2010.
“It was amazing. When I was here I felt like Portland had the best fans in the NBA – Super loyal – Even when we were going through the tough times, they were there.”
And finally, Webster talked about the day he found out he was being moved in favor of the younger Luke Babbitt.
“It hurt a little bit. But I knew that once I signed my first contact my rookie year, this was part of the process. It’s a business. The owners want results and if they don’t get them, they’ll go elsewhere to find them.”
