Rescuers carrying Morgan down by hand

June 21, 2012, 8:27 pm

Rescuers spent most of the day bringing an injured climber down the mountain.  52-year-old Gary Morgan of Clarkston, Michigan was alone and climbing Mount Hood for the first time.  He fell around 800' near Hogsback.

The process to bring Morgan down the mountain was not quick.  It took hours as rescuers were cautious of his injured hip and leg.  Conditions were also getting worse as time went on.

This was the second bad fall in the area in the past week.  An experienced climber, Mark Cartier, died last week.
