Near Kellogg and Burlington where the chase ended

A dramatic ending played out in North Portland this afternoon when an accused bank robber nearly carjacked a van as police moved in and ordered him to the ground at gunpoint.

It started across the river in Hazel Dell just before 3:00 when authorities say 29-year-old Brent Woodall robbed the Riverview Savings Bank on 88th Street.

He tried to carjack one driver at a gas station and was successful the second time.  Authorities say he drove that stolen vehicle across the river into Oregon.

Police had ended the pursuit, but a live television feed clued them in on where he was.  Woodall stopped a few times, then approached a van with a family of five and nearly grabbed the door handle.  An officer pulled up next to him and squeezed him between the patrol car and the van.  Woodall was taken down with the bag of cash in hand.
