Returning from a long hiatus, the Timbers found themselves facing similar struggles. They continue having troubles finding the back of the net, this time in Los Angeles, as they fall to the Galaxy 1-0 at the Home Depot Center.

Portland had a couple opportunities early, however. In the 7th minute, a Boyd blast was tipped away by a diving Josh Saunders, denying the Timbers a goal. In the 25th minute, again off a long Boyd shot, Saunders had to dive to deflect another potential goal.

Portland struggled to get any other looks as good as those two, and found themselves the victim of the Galaxy's first and only shutout of the MLS season.

The Galaxy were able to break the scoreless draw in the 62nd minute when David Beckham curled a beautiful corner kick to the back post for a Todd Dunivant header that squeaked passed Troy Perkins.

Portland's best chance to counter came in the 86th minute, when a Jack Jewsbury cross found Eric Alexander who was able to whip it over to the newly-acquired Danny Mwanga. A brief window to shoot was open, but the Galaxy were able to close quickly, steal the ball,  and diffused the threat.

The win was the Galaxy's first in their last seven games.

The Timbers fall to 3-6-4 on the season and face the Sounders next on Sunday at JELD-WEN Field.
