I admit I'm only 5 lessons in but I'm really starting to enjoy the game of golf. I'm also trying to ride the rollercoaster that I call "Joy and Frustration" about the game. I golfed 9 holes with a friend last Sunday at a beautiful course in Northeast Portland called Colwood. The first hole, I was so bad, I could have cried. Second hole, better. By the 8th hole, I had it on the green on my first shot (admittedly from the rookie yellow tee). I realized then, I was "in" even though I was horrible on the 9th hole all over again. Now I'm one of those people who talk about golf in the hallways.
I have to give a shout out to my golf coach Roger at Colwood who is more than patient with me. I'll be signing up for my second round of lessons soon. It's guys like him who help hook people like me to the sport. And, it's a sport that brings in about $25-Billion dollars to the US consumer market. That number is growing too.
If you want to get in on the fun for less money, you can still get the Alpha Golf Card. For just $99.95, you'll receive rounds of golf at 10 local golf courses. Just Sayin'. In the meantime, if you hear someone shouting "FORE" and the voice sounds familiar, it just might be me.
