Kyle Long Follows in the Family Footsteps

Former Oregon Ducks
OL Kyle Long
joined the Bald Faced Truth Monday afternoon to discuss being selected by the Chicago Bears
in the first round of the 2013 NFL Draft.
Long says that he felt a premonition that he’d be picked in the first round after he saw Justin Pugh get drafted to the Giants.
“Once I saw all of the offensive linemen go off [the draft board], I felt like I was right behind.”
Long’s first day at the Draft was certainly easier on him than his first day at Oregon training camp.
“Day one of fall camp I remember calling my dad saying ‘these guys are amazing, they go so fast. I’m the only one puking on the sidelines.’”
He says that his teammates quickly welcomed him into the program and brought him up to Oregon speed.
“It’s been a very long two years for my family and I, all the work that’s gone into this. It’s been a tremendous journey and I feel like this is just the start of another thing that is going to be great in my life.”
Though Long received congratulations via text and tweets from both his new teammates at Chicago and his former teammates at Oregon, he says there was little time for celebration.
“I was back watching film the next day. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity, you want to make the best of it.”
More than anything, Long is grateful to the Oregon football program and the fans for the opportunity.
“I want to say to everybody in the Northwest, thank you so much for taking me in. Once a Duck, always a Duck. I can’t say enough about the Oregon Ducks fans and all the people at U of O.”
