April 14, 2013, 6:43 am6-year-old Carmen Alexandria Welch has been found safe and physically unharmed at the Howard Johnson Hotel, after a 12 hour search.
Saturday afternoon, Edmond called 911 and reported her daughter missing, saying she had not arrived at a friend's house as planned. Gresham police officers immediately responded to Welch's last reported location, her apartment complex, and began to search for her. Unable to find her, the search area and effort widened. The East County Major Crimes Team was activated and assisted by Multnomah County's Search and Rescue team and Special Investigations Unit, Portland Police K9, and agents from the Federal Bureau of Investigations.
Detectives followed leads to the Howard Johnson Hotel were, at approximately 2:48 a.m. on April 14, 2013, they found Welch and her mother inside. Welch appears to be in good health and has been reunited with her father, Marc Welch, 31, of Gresham. The investigation into exactly why Edmond secreted her daughter and initiated the false report, activating dozens of officers and investigators and alarming the public, is ongoing but appears to be related to a custody dispute Edmond is having with Welch's father.
