Portland Police have identified the mother who was seen abusing her child at the Oregon Zoo this week. They know who the child is too, and have turned the case over to the Department of Human Services.
Witnesses on Tuesday afternoon near the penguin exhibit say she yelled profanities at the little girl, who appears to be around 3 years old. She's accused of slapping the child, pushing her
into a cement wall and kicking her in the side, which knocked her to the ground twice. The girl got up and went to a bench crying.
A witness who called 911 confronted the woman, who had some choice words for her. Zoo security was alerted, but the woman, who appeared to be in her mid 20's, and the child were already gone. They're seen leaving with another woman and child.
She may be from Canby, because the police department and Clackamas County are involved with the investigation.
If you know of a child being abused, police want you to call their hotline at (503) 731-3100, or 911 if it's happening now.
