A Northeast Portland man is accused of harassing families of the victims of last summer's deadly movie theater shooting in Aurora, Colorado. 12 people were killed on that July day, and 70 others were injured.
Authorities there asked Portland Police in late February to help with the investigation. 45-year-old Kevin Purfield was arrested in the Gateway District on Wednesday. He was arraigned today on charges of harassment and stalking.
Police say Purfield used the telephone, e-mail, and social media to contact the families. He wasn't threatening, but his comments had vile language.
In a blog, Purfield says he was held at Portland Adventist Medical Center for a psychiatric evaluation after police picked him up for trespassing. According to The Oregonian, he showed signs of paranoid delusions.
He's posted more than 300 videos on YouTube. In one of the videos, he blames NATO for the shooting.
