April 10, 2013, 8:34 am
Nearly 70 years ago his plane vanished over New Guinea. Today the body of World War Two vet Ray Thompson will be buried in Pendleton. The Army Air Corps staff sergeant died, along with nine other airmen, when their B-24 Bomber mysteriously went down in 1944. The wreckage and Thompson's remains weren't discovered until thirty years later. It was only recently that a positive identification was made through DNA matching. The East Oregonian reports Thompson has only one living relative... his 85-year old sister... who will be there to witness the final chapter in his life today.
