Seaside Police busted a house party where minors were drinking alcohol. 38 people under the age of 21 were cited for minor in possession. The mother of a 17-year-old rented the house for her son and his friends for Spring Break with no parental supervision.
A 9-1-1 call triggered it all. A girl called her mother saying she was locked in a bathroom, had a black eye and was scared of others at the party. Police found the 15-year-old drunk in a bedroom. She'd been locked in a closet as a prank.
The parent who rented the house will not be charged. Investigators say there's no evidence that she knew what was going on. The teen says the party got out of hand from a post on Facebook.
"I have no way of knowing, nor did the mother ever indicate that she knew her son was having an underage drinking party," says Police Chief Bob Gross.
"So there's no way for us to hold her accountable." He says the Seaside Police Department has a zero tolerance policy for underage drinking.
The minors were from Portland, Gresham and Troutdale. Some of their parents didn't even know their kids were at the beach. 28 of them under the age of 18 have to appear in juvenile court back home. The others were cited and released pending a court date next month in Seaside.
