Dantley: From the Court to the Streets

In most peoples eyes NBA players retire wealthy and never need to work after their playing career. Some retired athletes choose to follow careers in broadcasting or coaching, Adrian Dantley decided on a much different career path to follow after basketball. The NBA Hall of Famer joined John Canzano on The Bald Faced Truth to talk about his part-time job as a crossing guard.

Retired athletes move on to secondary careers for a various number of reasons. Some enter the workforce for the financial gain while some former athletes do it to stay busy. One reason Adrian Dantley became a crossing guard was for the health insurance.

"One bill that I don't like paying is the health premium," Dantley said in regards to the high medical insurance costs. "I really feel for people who don't have insurance, I listen to the news and it keeps going up every year."

Adrian Dantley played in the NBA in the 70's and 80's which most people consider to be the golden age of the NBA.

"I had matchups as a small forward, I played against Dr. J, Larry Bird, Kevin McHale, James Worthy, Mark Aguire, Kelly Tripuka and everyone of those guys averaged 20-25 points during their career sometime." Dantley said of the players he played against in his career.

Adrian Dantley and John Canzano also talk about the fact Dantley was able to get to the free throw line quit often which helped his scoring average every season.
