Clatsop County Jail

March 19, 2013, 9:01 pm

The Clatsop County Jail only holds 60 people, and because it is so full criminals are being released early almost every day.  It's called a forced matrix release.

At least two offenders who were released early from there have made news.  Mark Beebout was let out after being convicted of not registering as a sex offender.  He skipped his sentence hearing and within two months had killed two people.  He has since been recaptured and sentenced to two life sentences.  Meanwhile Tony Tisher was let go early, then was shot last week by a homeowner at a house he was allegedly robbing for the third time.

Clatsop County D.A. Josh Marquis says the jail is way too small.  He says these two issue do not speak well for their ability to protect the citizens in Clatsop County.

Twice voters in the county have turned down a bond measure to expand the jail.
