Two men passing by a burning house in Southeast Portland early this morning knew they had to act quickly to save lives. They knocked on doors at 87th and Brooklyn to alert those sleeping inside.
Four people got outside safely. They tried to pour water on the flames, but were eventually forced
outside. One person woke up only because someone was yelling "fire".
Investigators believe the inferno started on the back porch where lots of newspapers were stacked up. It quickly spread into the walls of the home and up to the attic. The damage is around $60,000.
