PPS Students Walkout In Protest
March 14, 2013, 2:21 pm
Portland high school students walked out of class today to support a bill in the Oregon House that takes on the issue of standardized testing. They went to Salem to take their message straight to lawmakers.
The students say the tests are biased, creating an inaccurate depiction of
knowledge and punishing students by race
and class. They want the tests eliminated, but would welcome an opt-out clause.
The group says teachers should be evaluated by community, parent and student feedback, and that students should be judged on their personal portfolios.
There was a similar walkout in Colorado.
