Police are saying last nights shooting at Northeast 7th and Lloyd could have been a planned ambush. Officers who arrived at the scene in separate cars were met immediately by gunfire in the empty parking structure. Portland Police SGT Pete Simpson says the suspect fired several rounds before officers returned fire and took him down.

"Shootings are incredibly traumatic, in any circumstance. But to have an incident where your met immediately by a suspect with a gun, who starts shooting it's almost a heightened level of trauma," Simpson said

The Multnomah County Medical Examiner's Office will conduct an autopsy Tuesday. The suspect whose been identified as 32-year old Santiago Cisneros III, died after being rushed to a hospital. Two officers from North Precinct responded to a report of an armed man atop the parking garage around 10:45 Monday night. According to Cisneros Facebook and Linkedin accounts, he was a military vet, and attended a Seattle community college.
