The Willamette Week is reporting that University of Oregon President Richard Lariviere is being ousted. Willamette week cites three board members, saying his contract will not be renewed this June. Lariviere had this affirmed in a 4:00 PM meeting with Oregon Governor John Kitzhaber.
Lariviere took over for President Dave Frohnmayer in 2009. Lariviere was an edgy president who was outspoken about collegiate athletics. One of his most controversial ideas came when he wanted to sell 1 Billion dollars worth of bonds for U of O to match through private fundraising. He is also known for giving generous raises to faculty in the thick of a recession.
