History was made yesterday as the Gonzaga Bulldogs became the new number one team in college basketball, marking the first time in history that the Zags have had that ranking. Former Blazer and Gonzaga Bulldog Dan Dickau joined Chad on Flight 750 Tuesday to talk about the Zags and their historic ranking.
Dickau began by talking about the great season of Junior Forward Kelly Olynyk.
“Kelly’s had an absolutely phenomenal junior year. He developed strength. He continued to develop the skill, but more than anything, he developed his confidence and his comfortability on the floor to be able to step out and do the things he’s able to consistently."
Dickau also talked about whether or not Gonzaga’s soft conference schedule is going to hurt the team moving forward.
“It’s not going to hurt them on the floor one bit. The reason is Gonzaga has gotten absolutely everybody’s best shot throughout the season.”
And finally, Dickau talked about what it’s like to be a part of program that has been so great recently.
“You look at it with a lot of pride and you look at it like “Wow! I was a part of the building blocks of the foundation to get this program to where it is. And the way this program is structured – I’m not saying they’re going to be ranked number one every single year on out – but the structure of the program is built in such a way that now that we have that national recognition and we can potentially get in on some different recruits, we’re going to have the chance to be at this level for a long time.”
Take a listen to the interview and be sure to keep it locked into 750thegame all-March-long as we broadcast all the games and hopefully get the Zags to Atlanta for the Final Four.
