First Amendment Facebook

Mayor Daniel Pokorney of La Grande made some statements about gay marriage on his personal Facebook page. He's taking a lot of flack for the use of 3 different words; "abomination", "Sodom", and "Gomorrah". Mayor Pokorney doesn't believe he should have to apologize for using the words he used. He believes in his 1st Amendment rights, as he should. For all the people who are threatening and accusing him of bigotry, there is a smaller number of people that include myself that support the Mayor speaking out like he did.

In this day and age when websites like Facebook and Twitter dominate the media and the way we communicate, it can often be dangerous for a public official to speak out in a way that goes against the grain. Amidst the calls for the Mayor to step down, he has chosen to stand in defiance and protect his right to speak his mind. I'm happy to stand with him and I would hope that you would, too.
