Commissioner Amanda Fritz Talks Equality
I had Portland City Commissioner Amanda Fritz on the program today because I heard about the hiring of Dante James as the director of the new Office of Equity and Human Rights. I was excited about this interview because not only is the topic something that needs detailed explanation, but this is also the first time Amanda Fritz has been willing to join the program. I've always been a firm believer in the equal opportunity. It's something that I'm proud America offers each one of her citizens. That's why I get so upset when equality is misused and someone is treated MORE equally than another. Commissioner Fritz says that everyone should have equal access to a work contract in the city, regardless of gender, race, or nationality. That's fine with me. I agree that everyone should have the equal opportunity. What about when everyone who applies for the contract is one gender or one race or one nationality, though? What do we do then?
I get the feeling that Commissioner Amanda Fritz realized the problem here at some point during the interview.
