Oregon Ducks Defensive Coordinator Nick Aliotti coached his defense to one of the best seasons in the history of the program.  And last week, he and the rest of the coaching staff were able to pull in a top-25 recruiting class.  Coach Aliotti joined Chad on Flight 750 Wednesday to talk about the new commits and the new regime under Mark Helfrich.

Aliotti explains that the continuity of the coaching staff is probably the biggest reason for the signing day success.

“You know it really helps when you know you’re going to go to work everyday and you’re around a bunch of guys you can trust, you’ve been through the trials and tribulations day in and day out with…We’ve won a lot of games here together for a long, long time.  It’s just kind of nice to have the continuity that we’ve had here.”

Aliotti also talked about his new head coach Mark Helfrich and how he expects him to do.

“I think he’ll do outstanding.  I think in a lot of promotions and a lot of step-ups when you get a new job, I’m not sure you’re ever really ready.  You think you are, but I’m not sure you’re ever really ready until you are thrust into it and you have to jump in with both feet and you start doing the job.”

And finally, Aliotti spoke about Ifo Ekpre-Olomu, and the great job he has done for the Ducks secondary the past two years.

“He’s just a hard worker and he’s very smart.  He’s gone from being a pretty good player his first year to a very good player last year to what I think is and NFL-caliber-type corner by the end of this season.”
