Popsicles and Chicken Pox

The question today is whether or not you would send you kids to a chicken pox party instead of having them get a vaccination. I heard recently about parents in Ashland who were having pox parties for their kids. Basically these are parties that are advertised through word of mouth, invitation-only Facebook groups and message boards. I personally believe that these pox parties are aimed at people and parents who have irrational fears of vaccines.

I talked to Dr. Dawn Nolt, who is a pediatric infectious disease specialist at Doernbecher Hospital. Like Dr. Nolt says, the vaccine is fine and it will cause much less pain and discomfort for a child. Some parents, however, think that they would rather make sure they get it over and out of the way rather than risk failure of a vaccine.

What do you think?

Listen to Dr. Nolt below.
