Here's reason to be careful about what you post on Facebook and Twitter.  Thieves are watching and using that information to break into homes while people are out of town.

From last March to September, families across the metro area, from Washington County, Lake Oswego and Beaverton, to Southwest Washington, were ripped off of over $100,000 in heirlooms and other valuables.  The value is more sentimental than monetary.

Thomas Phelps and Roseanne McCausland, both 28, are accused of removing power meters, disabling alarm systems and breaking in.  They were arrested after a second-hand dealer says he bought the items from them.  The loot was found in storage units and a motel in Rhododendron.

The stolen property is now on display in Lake Oswego.  Police are hoping to reunite things like china sets, musical instruments and art work with their rightful owners.  To reclaim your property, make an appointment with an evidence officer by calling (503) 635-0250.
