Chris Sheridan is one of the best basketball writers in the country and he is simply the best when it comes to discussing NBA trade scenarios. He joined Chad on Flight 750 Thursday to discuss the first half of the NBA season and the players who are most likely to be dealt at the trade deadline.
Sheridan says that former Duck Luke Ridnour ranks as one of the most likely candidates to be dealt by the trade deadline on February 21st.
“Minnesota has got three guys under contract now in Rubio, J.J. Barea and Ridnour…Ridnour’s a guy they don’t really need and a guy they can get something for…This is his 10th year now. He doesn’t have a lot of playoff experience, but he’s a steady hand.”
Sheridan also talked about whether it would be wise for the Blazers to make a deal at the trade deadline to try to make a push for the playoffs.
“They’re a pretty thin team. They don’t have much coming off the bench and they run their starters 40 minutes a night…If you can get a guy like Will Bynum – a sixth man who can come off the bench and get hot and get you 15 points a night – If you can get a guy like that and you can get him cheap, you make the move. But I don’t think Neil’s diluted himself into thinking they’re a championship team.”
Sheridan also says the Blazers can’t just make a deal to make a deal. If they are going to make a deal, it needs to make sense for the future because the Blazers have a lot of really nice pieces right now.
“They’ve got a nice core with LaMarcus and Batum is living up to his contract which is nice to see, and they’ve got the Rookie of the Year and he’s been the Rookie of the Year since day one. They’re going down the right road and you look for a bargain if you can get a bargain, but you don’t really want to break up the core that you’ve built and built pretty well.”
