The new composting and garbage rules have some Portland parents rethinking disposable diapers.  Paula DeVore is the owner of Babyworks, an all natural baby clothing and supply store.  So far she's had one customer who was interested in cloth diapers because she was worried about the disposable diapers piling up in between garbage pickups.  Another parent on Babyworks facebook page said she cut her garbage load in half by switching from disposable to cloth diapers.  DeVore says "Every baby using disposables will go through 8 to 10,000 diapers.  Translated that's one ton of garbage."

It's been one week since Portland residents started composting.  Compost and yard debris is picked up once a week.  Garbage is picked up every other week.
