Fugitive Shot By Police In Keizer

A fugitive who led Salem Police on a chase into Keizer was shot at an apartment complex this morning. None of the officers involved were injured.

29-year-old Gabriel Diaz was one of Salem's ten most wanted since last February on three warrants for sex abuse.

Diaz avoided spike strips that were in the road to get him to stop. Finally, the chase ended over thirteen miles and fourteen minutes later near Lockhaven Drive NE and Inland Shores Way when officers blocked in his vehicle.

Witnesses say he got out of his truck with something in his hand and wouldn't follow orders. 21-year-old veteran, Officer Bruce Fineran, shot Diaz. He was taken to a hospital, but his condition has not been released.
