After spending 87 years in its usual spot the Sellwood Bridge has found its new temporary home. 66 feet from its old spot. The 34-hundred-ton piece of bridge will serve as a detour starting Thursday while crews construct the new bridge. Early morning fog and cold weather  hung around all day but that didn't stop crews from executing their plan to near perfection. Crews had to move the bridge in an exact strait line, making sure not to compromise its structural integrity. They used lasers to guide the 11-hundred-foot truss span while in motion. The west end of the bridge moved around 66-feet, while the east end moved 33-feet. On average the bridge moved about 3/4 of an inch a minute. Hillsboro contractor Omega Morgan is heading up the project, and will save $10 million on the projects cost by moving the bridge to the side. The projects total cost totals $307 million.
